Metropolitan Landscape is a joint Semester Programme run by Tec de Monterrey (Tec) in Mexico City and the Architectural Association (AA) in London. It combines Tec’s entrepreneurial culture with the experimental tradition of the AA and looks at the emergence of a metropolitan discipline worldwide.

Based in Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey) and UK (London) the programme explores the visionary role design can play, within the so called ‘urban age’ and ‘Anthropocene epoch’, given the scale and magnitude of urbanisation processes at a planetary scale. To do so it makes use of the latest urban, critical, technological, ecological and landscape concepts to shape the discipline.

Metropolitan Landscapes/ Escenarios Metropolitanos incorporates the latest theoretical concepts and methods to describe and understand contemporary urban processes, reflects on the consequences these processes produce locally and globally, and integrates latest technologies to envision potential futures. At its core the programme uses ecology as a disciplinary framework to accommodate the various and complex aspects of the contemporary urbanisation and its consequential landscapes and landscape techniques to deliver a set of design tools and techniques instrumental to the latter. Altogether they provide ways to spatialize and project, regulations, policies, and other urban frameworks and to visualise their impacts within potential metropolitan futures.

This unique course offers a Certificated award by both Institutions (Tec de Monterrey and the Architectural Association) and runs during 12 weekends (face-to-face and online) and 2 weeks visit to UK.
